“Humor is merely tragedy standing on its head with its pants torn. “ – Irvin S. Cobb
One study is using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to study the human brain. The brain scans are being used during an experiment. Subjects are asked to look at cartoons. Some are funny. Some are not. The brain scans detect which part of the brain is activated when a human subject finds a cartoon to be funny. Some of the research so far has found that humor stimulated the part of the brain called the amygdala which releases dopamine. We all know that dopamine is the same chemical that is released during a runner’s high and it creates a sense of euphoria or general well being. Can humor be chopped up and dissected to understand what makes a joke funny? See this article on the science of laughter.
We think you don’t have to analyze and study humor to know that it is good for you. One more reason why when you are creating a mobile campaign, why not create messages that are not only beneficial to your clients and customers. How about sending a joke of the day? Or a funny photo? Or ask them to vote on a funny scenario or participate in a funny sweepstakes. The possibilities are endless. Make your next text messaging campaign a way to brighten your customers’ day and put a smile on their faces. Help us celebrate humor! Tomorrow we will be releasing our fourth video made with Comedian Wali Collins and we are asking you to go to our Facebook fan page to vote on which one you like best. – Kalin J.
